Resources for modellers

Business Analysis Lifecycle. Building a spreadsheet model is always a means to an end. The purpose of any model is to generate insights to help answer critical business questions. The model is a laboratory. It’s a place where we can test hypotheses about the business. This is why I love modelling. Done well, it can help us explore real-world business dynamics and ultimately make better decisions. This chapter of the Financial Modelling Handbook explains how modelling fits into the wider business analysis process.

Financial modeller’s corner podcast. Paul Barnhurst is hosting a new podcast featuring discussions with Financial Modellers from across the globe. It’s a well produced and useful resource for modellers.

Modelling best practices guide. The Financial Modelling Institute has published a useful paper on modelling best practices around structure, format and formula tips. “Best practice” can sometime seem a bit of an overused term in modelling since it means different things to different people. This contains some useful pointers nonetheless.
